18-year-old Greg Segers has a wide range of experience in motor sport. After trying the prototype sport and single-seater VdeV, the young Frenchman has been driving a Renault RS01 since the beginning of the season in the Ultimate Cup Series (with the exception of Slovakia).
Greg was competing his third race at the wheel of the Renault #46 lined up by AB Sport Auto a week and a half ago at Mugello, alongside Tiziano Carugati and Nicolas Maunoir. He set the fastest absolute time in qualifying and finished second on the podium.
“Competing in GT is a new experience for me and it is quite an exceptional opportunity. “said Greg Segers. “The Renault RS01 is a fantastic car that develops no less than 550 to 600 horsepower, for 1.2 tonnes, with good air support that allows us to have very good sensations on board. She is really agile in corners. »
A championship he enjoys…
“The Ultimate Cup Series is a very beautiful championship in which I have a lot of fun. The atmosphere is very good, you can feel the professionalism in the organization and the race formats are really good. »
His program is not yet completed for the end of the season, although there is a good chance that he will be back in Spain in the fall.
“The AB Sport Auto team trusts me and allows me to show my full potential behind the wheel of a superb car. Starting a job is also finishing it, so I would like to continue in Valencia and thus continue on this path. »
What is your mid-term goal?
“I go through the Utlimate Cup Series and then play in other leagues. It is a doorway to the professional world. My goal is to become a professional pilot to make a living from my passion. »
Greg Segers was in Lédenon last weekend to discover the FFSA GT French Championship. A new experience behind the wheel of a GT4 even though he drove a Porsche Cayman GT4 in the last Porsche Carrera Cup France Junior Programme.
“I learned a lot of things behind the wheel of this Ginetta G55. The weekend went quite well and I was able to see a correct evolution. My goal has been achieved to the extent that I have been regular and constant. Of course we give up during the first race but during the second we climbed 14 places! It was nice as I already knew the circuit but I had never driven a GT before on this track. »
Let Greg conclude: “I thank my teammates, the Driving Koncept structure with David Zollinger and Antoine Weil, as well as Lestiennes Insurance, AB Sport Auto, Tiziano Carugati, Shop-Racing, CMR and all the people who help and support me. »
Note that the young man is interested in a “development” steering wheel this summer!
